Tidepoint opens genre wing Bone House Asia

by Chris MaGee

Well, one door closes and another door opens. We all had the wind knocked out of us when we got the news that Tartan Films USA had closed last month, but there seems to be a ray of hope on the horizon for us Japanese film fans. Word came down today from Nicholas Rucka via his blog that Tidepoint Pictures has launched their own specialty wing called Bone House Asia that will release “the suspense-filled, the creepy, the bizarrely off-beat among Asian spine-tinglers.” As of now it looks like Tidepoint’s releases of “Noriko’s Dinner Table”, “Long Dream” and “Late Bloomer” have all been shifted under the auspices of this new wing and I’m sure there will be more to follow. I’m not sure what this means for Asian Edge, the company formed by Facets and Tidepoint Pictures back in 2005 though…

UPDATE: Got word from Tetsuki Ijichi from Tidepoint Pictures about the status of Asian Edge: "Asian Edge will be the label to introduce cutting-edge documentary and drama, shorts by independent filmmakers from Asia and the joint brand with Facets. The next release is a Malaysian feature 'Love Conquers All'." Thanks for the clarification, Tetsuki!
