Jo Hisaishi interview at Ghibli World

A friend and I were discussing our favorite Japanese film composers recently and a lot of names were bandied about: Ryuichi Sakamoto, Toru Takemistu, Kenji Kawai, but one that we both agreed on was Jo Hisaishi. His instantly recognizable soundtracks for Hayao Miyazaki’s films and a good chunk of Takeshi Kitano’s films as well were the original soundscape to my exploration of Japanese cinema.

Now Ghibli World has posted an interview with the famed composer conducted by Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki. In it he discuses how he first came to work for Studio Ghibli, an upcoming concert featuring music from Miyazaki’s films, as well as the progress on the soundtrack for “Ponyo on a Cliff by the Sea”
