Another story from The Tokyo Reporter today about a new film festival starting up Tokyo. On November 21st the first ever Old Town Taito International Comedy Film Festival will take over Ueno and Asakusa for four days of laughs, and the opening film has already been announced.
Based on the manga by Yumiko Suzuki "Kanna-san Daiseiko Desu!" stars Yu Yamada as a young overweight woman who decides to have extensive plastic surgery to get the man of her dreams. Wow! There's a real positive message for women out there.
This will be the second adaptation of Suzuki's manga, which was turned into the Korean comedy feature "200 lbs of Beauty" in 2006 by director Kim Yong-hwa.
Along with "Kanna-san Daiseiko Desu!" the fest will also feature Mike Myers' box office flop "The Love Guru." Wait a minute... This fest isn't sounding very funny after all...
