The Canadian Museum of Civilization brings Japanese film to Ottawa

by Chris MaGee

Canada's capital is about to get a dose of Japanese film courtesy of Heater Keung, the Artistic Director of the Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival. On August 19th and 20th at Riverview Park in Ottawa the Canadian Museum of Civilization will present their own Japan Film Festival, and there are some great titles lined up for audiences.

Included in the four film line-up are Koji Fukada's sly social satire "Hospitalite" (above), Mamoru Hosoda's animated adventure "Summer Wars", a programme of animated shorts from arts collective CALF and Japanese-Canadian film-maker Jeff Chiba Stearns' documentary "One Big Hapa Family".

The Canadian Museum of Civilization's Japan Film Festival will be running as part of its "JAPAN: Tradition. Innovation." exhibition, and what's best is that all four films will be screening for FREE. If you live in the Ottawa area then this is an event you will not want to miss. Thanks to Reel Asian for the heads up on this.
