Manga adaptation up next for Akira Ogata

I was discussing director Akira Ogata and his 2007 film “The Milkwoman” with Don Brown of Ryuganji.net in the past few days and he let me in on some info that I had to share with you all. Ogata is currently working on his third feature called “Non-chan Noriben”. The details so far are scanty, but what is known is that it’ based on the manga by Yoshikazu Irie that ran from 1995-1998 and tells the story of a divorced mom who juggles raising her young daughter and dreaming of opening a small café.

The screenplay for “Non-chan Noriben” was written by Takashi Suzuki whose only previous writing credit (at least according to IMDB) was for the 2002 Satoshi Isaka film “Mr. Rookie”, a feel good film about an ad exec who gets to pitch for the Hanshin Tigers.

It sounds like an odd combo of writer/ director, but I absolutely fell in love with Ogata’s debut film “Boy’s Choir” and am soon going to finally get the chance to see “The Milkwoman”, so any news of more Ogata is good news to me.

As soon as more comes out on this I’ll let you know!
