Kosai Sekine's "Right Place"

by Chris MaGee

Certainly not breaking news, but definitely a fun little film, Kosai Sekine took home the award for best short film for this at the 2006 Cannes International Film Festival, as well as a slew of other festivals. "Right Place" is about a convenience store clerk with OCD and how it's not just objects that sometimes need to find their right place in the world.

Kosai didn't start out in film ironically, instead majoring in philosophy at Sophia University in Tokyo, but the film bug eventually led him to study photography and film basics in the U.S. and then onto working as a director of commercials. To learn more about him and his other films check out his website in both Japanese and English here.
