Takeshi Kitano to receive lifetime achievement award from Moscow International Film Festival

by Chris MaGee

First the organizers of the Venice International Film Festival named an award after Takeshi Kitano's last film "Glory to the Filmmkaer!" Now Jason Gray is reporting that the folks at this year's Moscow International Film Festival will be honouring Kitano with a life time achievement award for, as the put it, being "a super-nova that appeared in the European and then in American sky in the mid-1990s and is still unbearably bright."

The festival which runs from June 19th to the 28th will be screening "Violent Cop", "Sonatine", "Hana-bi", "Dolls" Zatoichi" and of course "Glory to the Filmmmaker!" to mark the occasion. I'm a little disappointed they don't have "A Scene at the Sea" on the bill as, at least I think, that it's one of Kitano's best films. Well, you can't please them all.

Check out the full programme details at the Moscow International Film Festival website here.
