Director of "Mongol" Segei Bodrov brings us action/ comedy "Yakuza Girl"

Many Japanese film fans will know the name Sergei Bodrov. He's the Russian filmmaker who cast Tadanobu Asano as the young Genghis Khan in his 2007 historical epic "Mongol". Now it looks as if the 62-year-old director has cast even more Japanese stars in one of his upcoming films. According to Tokyograph Bodrov is in production on an action/ comedy titled "Yakuza Girl" that tells the tale of a the granddaughter of a yakuza boss who gets caught in the middle of a war between the Russian mob and the yakuza. The young girl is played by 11-year-old actress Chika Arakawa (above right) and the rest of the cast is rounded out by Naomasa Musaka and Tak Sakaguchi.

The trailer (that was originally picked up by Twitch) looks like a hell of a lot of fun. No official word on an international theatrical run yet for this though. We'll have to wait until "yakuza Girl" makes its premiere at the Vladivostok International Film Festival which runs from September 11th to September 17th.
