Tetsuya Chiba's iconic boxing manga makes it to the big screen in a live-action retelling directed by Fumihiko Sori, the man who brought us "Vexille" and "Ichi". Scrappy street orphan Joe (Tomohisa Yamashita) is taken in by boxing coach Dampei Tange (Teruyuki Kagawa) and schooled in the pugilistic arts. Joe's passion for boxing doesn't kick in until he meets his rival Toru Rikiishi (Yusuke Iseya) and Joe begins training for the fight of his life.
Jujiro (Crossroads) - Teinosuke Kinugasa (1928)
Director Teinosuke Kinugasa takes us into the lusty and sometimes dangerous world of old Edo's Yoshiwara pleasure district in his 1928 silent classic "Jujiro (Crossroads)". Kinugasa, who also directed the surreal and rarely screened "A Page of Madness" uses dazzling visual techniques to tell the story of the impoverished Rikiya and his obsession with the manipulative courtesan O-yume, the queen of the Yoshiwara.
