by Chris MaGee It was while I was at Tokyo Filmex this past November that I got to chatting (and drinking) with Third Window Films' president Adam Torel about what things his company had planned in the near future. One very exciting event he told me about was just in the fermentation process at that time, but this past week Adam has gone public with something very exciting for Asian film fans in the UK.
Torel and Third Window Films has organized East Winds: A Third Window Film Festival which will run from February 11th to 13th at the Coventry University East Asian Film Society. This three day event will give audiences a chance to see some of the best films in the Third Window catalogue in a beautiful 220-seat theatre... and what's best is the tickets are cheap! General admission is only £6.60 while students only have to pay £4.30. Not bad!
In amongst the six films programmed four of them are Japanese... and very good Japanese films at that - Tetsuya Nakashima's musical melodrama "Memories of Matsuko" and his 2010 critically-praised "Confessions" (check out the trailer below), Sion Sono's twisted serial killer flick "Cold Fish" and my personal favorite in the line-up, Gen Takahashi's gritty three hour cop drama "Confessions of a Dog".
