Artist Hito Steyerl on Japanese Cinema

Pow-Wow contributing editor, Bob Turnbull, sent this link to a very interesting article written by multi-media artist and theorist Hito Steyerl from the latest frieze magazine. Part of their "Life in Film" series it asks artists to list the films that have influenced their practice. Steyerl, a visting professor at the University of Arts Berlin whose work consists of film and writing dealing with globaliazation, feminism and racism doesn't just list the films that have influenced her work, she goes on at length for her interest in Japanese cinema, primarily the Japanese New Wave and avant garde.
