There's another interview of interest over at The Japan Times Online, this time with veteran filmmaker Koji Wakamatsu. I've always run a bit hot and cold with Wakamatsu's films, never being entirely comfortable with the sometimes uneasy mix of sex and violence. Then again, the ex-yakuza's 45 year career has been notorious for its ability to be provoke strong reactions from an audience.
He sits down with Mark Schilling to discuss his latest film "United Red Army", which has appeared on many critics best of 2007 lists, his own involvement with the radical group in the 1970's, and why we'll never see another "pinku eiga" from the director that pioneered the genre.
