Takayuki Yamada gets typecast as otaku

Okay, that headline may be a bit harsh, but it got your attention didn’t it?

Tokyograph is reporting that Takayuki Yamada, who starred as the titular “Train Man” in Shosuke Murakami’s 2005 adaptation of the true story, manga, TV show, national phenomena, etc. will be stepping in front of the camera for Shochiku as yet another otaku. Katsuhide Motoki (GeGeGe no Kitaro, Drugstore Girl) will direct Yamada in “Kamogawa Horumo”, “a supernatural coming-of-age comedy” set in Kyoto. Based on the Naoki Prize-winning novel by Manabu Makime the story follows geeky college student Akira Abe (Yamada) who gets involved in a club that plays a magical game called “horumo” that is played with “oni” or Japanese spirits. Shochiku plans to release the film in 2009.

Could be interesting, especially as a little digging online revealed that Makime also wrote a novel called “Shikaotoko Aoniyoshi (The Fantastic Deer-Man)” about a teacher who is transformed into a deer-man after being given the task to save Japan by the deers in Nara. Ooookay then…
