Director of "Yaji and Kita" takes on Shakespeare

Man… fans of Ben Elton’s Queen musical “We Will Rock You” should love this. A DVD of a heavy metal version of Shakespeare’s “Macbeth” is being released in Japan. Originally staged in 2006 the classic story of bloody ambition is set in 1980’s Japan and 200 years in the future and by the looks of the trailer stars Takako Matsu (The Hidden Blade, Tokyo Tower) as Lady MacBeth!

There can be only one man responsible for something as off the wall as “Metal Macbeth”… That’s right, the man behind “Yaji and Kita: The Midnight Pilgrims” and the upcoming punk comedy “Shonen Meriken Sakku” Kankuro Kudo!

I’m no fan of musicals, but I think I could get over that pretty easily for this. Looks like we’ll be getting a chance to see some of the most interesting Japanese directors take on live theatre with this DVD and with the DVD release this month of Takashi Miike’s production of “Demon Pond” being released here in North America from Cinema Epoch.
