Does Minoru Kawasaki ever sleep???

I used to think that Takashi Miike was the hardest working man in the Japanese film industry, but it looks like Minoru Kawasaki could be edging him out. In the past week we’ve heard reports about his upcoming kaiju movie “Guilala Strikes Back” Toyako Summit Crisis” and his magical hairstyling film “Kamigakari” and now Tokyograph has a report of Kawasaki signing on for yet another project!

This time he’s set to direct the live-action adaptation of Kenji Sonishi’s quirky gag comic strip “Neko Rahmen” about a cat named Taisho who runs his own ramen restaurant. While the comic continues to be published it has also spawned an online flash series, one of the most popular downloads at Yahoo! Japan ever. Check out the weirdness in a sample episode below.

First a pro-wrestling squid then a koala who’s an executive at a pickle company… and now a cat who’s serving up steaming bowls of cat food ramen. I’ll buy that!

“Neko Rahmen Taisho” is set to hit Japanese theatres in the fall.
