Hebi ni Pierce (Snakes and Earrings) – Yukio Ninagawa

Based on the 2003 Akutagawa Prize-winning novel by 20-year-old author Hitomi Kanehara “Hebi ni Pierce (Snakes and Earrings) is a trip into the world of body modification, tattooing and piercing. Lui, a young woman intrigued by a subculture built on physical pain falls in with a pair of tattoo artists and spirals into alcoholism. Directed by famed theatrical director Yukio Ninagawa.




The Man without a Map – Hiroshi Teshigahara (1968)

A first and a last for Hiroshi Teshigahara: “The Man without a Map”, the story of a detective (Shinatro Katsu) who searches through the seedy underbelly of Tokyo for a missing salaryman is shocked when his life begins to resemble that of the man he’s looking for was the director’s first colour film. It also marked the last time he would adapt a work by the famed Japanese author, Kobo Abe, to the screen.
