Fans of Japanese action and genre films will know Hideo Sakaki (above left) even though his name may not ring an immediate bell. He's made appearances, both major and minor, in such films as "Versus", "Alive", "Battlefield Baseball" and most recently in Tak Sakaguchi's "Be a Man! Samurai School"; but Sakaki is is eschewing his genre roots for his upcoming feature film directing debut.
Sakaki will be stepping behind the camera to bring us "Boku no Obaachan", the story of a home builder who takes on a job for an old woman and through dealing with her is reminded of growing up with his own grandmother. He doesn't karate chop the old woman, doesn't unleash a nail gun on her, nothing. Quite the artistic turnaround.
Former boy band member Kenichi Okamoto (above right) will play the lead role of the home builder, but frankly I have problems seeing him swinging a hammer. Actress Kin Sugai will take on the role of the grandmother.
"Boku no Obaachan" is set for release in Japanese theatres in December. Thanks to Tokyograph for the report.

Sakaki's debut was actually "Grow" (Gu-Rou) last year
I thought he'd just done a short... Oops!
