ANNOUNCEMENT: “Tokyo Sonata” to get North American premiere at TIFF’08

by Chris MaGee

It’s official! “Tokyo Sonata” will be receiving its North American premiere right here in Toronto! In a press release posted today on the Toronto International Film Festival website it was announced that Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Un Certain Regard Jury Prize winning drama will join Swedish filmmaker Jan Troell’s “Everlasting Moments” as part of this year’s Masters programme at TIFF’08. What are the chances that Kurosawa and his cast (above) will be strolling through Yorkville? Better than average by the looks of it.

Now all we have to do is see which other films will get added to TIFF’s 2008 line-up... Taksehi Kitano’s “Achilles and the Tortoise”? Oku Shuntaro’s “Death of Domomata”? Takako Matsumoto’s documentary “Near Equal Kusama Yayoi: I Adore Myself” Those are some of the films on my festival wish list. Have your say in the comments about which films you have your fingers crossed for…
