"Death Note" screenwriter to adapt vampire manga to the big screen

by Chris MaGee

Word has come through Kodansha's Young Magazine that Koji Matsumoto's horror manga "Higanjima" will be adapted into a live-action feature film. The story of Akira Miyamoto's for his missing brother on an island ruled by vampires and creeping with various other supernatural baddies has already stretched over 24 volumes and been turned into a video game.

Korean director Tae-Gyun Kim who previously helmed the action movie "Volcano High" is overseeing the adaptation with Tetsuya Oishi taking care of the script, which isn't too shabby. Oishi previously penned the screenplays for both "Death Note" feature films and the upcoming Osamu Tezuka manga adaptation "MW".

No cast has been announced yet, but "Higanjima" is expected to see a release next summer.
