An exhibition and film festival for "The God of Manga" coming to London in September

by Chris MaGee

Astroboy, Kimba the White Lion, Dororo, Black Jack and even The Buddha, these are but a few of the characters that Osamu Tezuka brought to the pages of Japan's manga and to its television screens through animated series. With this kind of output it's obvious why the wildly prolific and highly influential artist was dubbed "The God of Manga".

Now manga and anime fans in London will be getting a chance to see not only a retrospective of films and televisions episodes curated by the founder of AnimeFX Magazine Helen McCarthy as well as an exhibition of drawings by the master all under the title "Osamu Tezuka: Movies in Manga". Running at the Barbican from September 18th to 24th the vents will mark the 80th anniversary of the birth of Tezuka who passed away in 1989.

For a full listing of films that will be featured head over to SciFi Japan.
