Things get groovy in "GS Wonderland" starring Chiaki Kuriyama

by Chris MaGee

Nippon Cinema has got the scoop on the official website and teaser trailer for Ryuichi Honda's upcoming film "GS Wonderland" set in the groovy "group sounds" era of the late 60's. Dring those few brief years bands like The Spiders and The Carnabeats combined garage pop stylings with some very (very) dated matching outfits, and it definitely looks like Honda's got that down pat from the picture above. Yes, that's Chiaki Kuriyama of "Battle Royale" and "Kill Bill" fame on the right. The film centers around her character Miku, a rather lovely keyboard player who has to impersonate a man to get a gig with The Tightsmen (this the tights I'm assuming). It looks like a hell of a lot of fun plus it co-stars Ittoku Kishibe, who himself was once a member of the GS group The Tigers, and the hardest working man in Japanese cinema Ren Osugi.

"GS Wonderland" is set to be released in Japanese theatres in November.
