Akira Ogata's "Nonchan Noriben" gets a leading lady

by Chris MaGee

We've been following "Boy's Choir" and "The Milkwoman" director Akira Ogata's upcoming third film, "Nonchan Noriben" since April (read our previous posts here and here), but an important story came up about it during the break that deserves a bit of back tracking.

On Monday Tokyograph ran the story that singer/ actress Manami Konishi, last seen in Kakei Masaya’s "Sweet Rain: Accuracy of Death", will be taking the lead role in Ogata's adaptation of the Kiwa Irie manga. Konishi will play Komaki Nagai, a woman who leaves a husband who spends too much of his time dreaming of being a famous writer and not enough time working. Taking her young daughter, Nonchan, she sets out on a new path: running a small restaurant in the Kyojima district of Tokyo.

Production is currently taking place and Japanese entertainment site Eiga.com has posted an exclusive image of Konishi being directed by Ogata.

"Nonchan Noriben" is set for release next year.
