ANNOUNCEMENT: The Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre brings Noh theatre to Toronto this October

by Chris MaGee

Always keeping an eye out for events that Japanese cinema enthusiasts might be interested in I thought I'd let all of you know about an event coming to the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre in Don Mills this October. Master Sensei Haruhisa Kawamura of Kyoto's Kawamura Noh Theatre will be presenting "The World of Noh". This is a rare opportunity for Torontonians to get firsthand experience of the masks, costumes, music and pageantry of a traditional Noh performance.

This is one of the many cultural events taking place this year to mark the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Canada and Japan, and in my opinion, the one that should not be missed.

"The World of Noh" will take place Wednesday, October 1, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. in the Kobayashi Hall of the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre, 6 Garamond Court in Don Mills. Admission is $25.00 ($20.00 for JCCC members). To reserve tickets or to get more information call: (416) 441-2345.
