"The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" leapfrogs across the U.S.

Some good news for anime fans south of the border; Mamoru Hosoda's multiple award-winning 2006 animated feature "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" will be getting a limited theatrical release in Boston, Seattle and Washington between now and September 4th. The folks at Anime News Network have got details on the specific theatres and lengths of each run.

Based on the serialized novel by Yasutaka Tsutsui that appeared in Chu-3 Course and Kō-1 Course magazines between 1965 and 1966 the story of Kazuko Yoshiyama, a 17 year-old high school student who discovers she possesses the unique ability to "leap: through time has become a young adult classic in Japan, having altready been adapted to both the big screen and to television as far back as 1983. Hosoda's film was the first time Kazuko's adventures were made into an animated film. It certainly paid off, with "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" winning the Animation of the Year honour at the 30th Annual Japan Academy Awards amongst a slew of others.

We in North America can look forward to the R1 DVD release of the film on November 18th from Bandai Entertainment; but if you're not living in any of the above U.S. cities you'll have to make due with the trailer for "The Girl Who Leapt Through Time" below:
