Mamoru Oshii's "The Sky Crawlers" screens in Venice, but not without a hitch

by Chris MaGee

Mamoru Oshii's latest big screen animated adventure "The Sky Crawlers" was screened recently at the Venice International Film Festival, with the director and voice talent Rinko Kikuchi and Ryo Kase present, but things didn't go without a hitch. According to Variety Japan the customary wave and greet with the cast that takes place during the closing credits got off to a bumpy start when the lights in the theatre failed to come up leaving Oshii, Kikuchi and Kase in darkness. A little technical adjustments were made and the photo ops and applause went on as per normal.

Okay, this isn't much of a news story, but I like the above pic from Variety Japan and I'm getting excited about seeing "The Sky Crawlers" later this week at TIFF. Sue me.
