Wow! What a photo, eh? You've got Kankuro Kudo, Yudai Yamaguchi and Daisaku Kimura all in one room. The reason? Toei held a press conference yesterday to announce their film line-up for 2009, but on top of the films we know about "Shonen Meriken Sakku", "Elite Yankee Saburo" and "Tsurugidake: ten no ki" there was one big film I hadn't heard of before.
Up in the right hand corner of the pic above is Isao Yukisada, the man behind such films as "Go" and "Crying Out Love at the Center of the World". He was on hand to announce his latest film "Kondo wa aisaka (This Time a Devoted Husband)", about the trials and tribulations of a middle-aged couple about to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary. I did a bit of searching online and it looks like this will be an adaptation of the successful stage play of the same name by Mayumi Nakatani. The article at Variety Asia Online names her as well as Chihiro Itou as writing the screenplay for this one, so it appears they're one and the same. Final casting for "Kondo wa aisaka" has yet to be finalized, but the film is still set to start shooting in December with a theatrical release set for sometime next year.
