"Kiru=Kill" premieres at Tokyo International Film Festival

by Chris MaGee

One project that has really got genre fans excited is the upcoming omnibus film "Kiru=Kill". As you probably know it consists of four separate fight sequences directed by Kenta Fukasaku, Takanori Tsujimoto, Minoru Tahara and Mamoru Oshii. It's Oshii's involvement that has everyone dying to see this. Now lucky audiences at this year's Tokyo International Film Festival have got the chance to do just that.

Yesterday, Sunday the 19th, "Kiru=Kill" had it's premiere at Toho Cinemas Roppongi and Yoko Fujita (center holding sword), who co-stars with Rinko Kikuchi in the Oshii directed segment "Assault Girl 2", was one hand with (from left) anime voice talent Vanilla Yamazaki, who provides the narration for "Kodomo Samurai" and Kenta Fukasaku who directed the segment, as well as Takanori Tsujimoto who directed the segment "Kiriko" and its star Ayako Morita (far right). Unfortunately Mamoru Oshii was a no show as he was "in preparation for his next movie".

Blogger Edmund Yeo was there and has his own thoughts on the film, which contrary to the info that's been circulating online is made up of four fully fleshed out short films and not simply the climactic battle sequences of fictional features. You can find his full report and review here.

"Kiru=Kill" is set for a December 6th release in Japanese Theatres. Thanks to Variety Japan for the above image.

How did the "Kiru=Kill" title come about? I've only seen 『斬 KILL』 (Zan ~ Kill) on Japanese sites. Did they make up a Japanese'er sounding name for international sales or something?

I'd seen "Kiru=Kill" when the project was first announced and I've been using it since then. Damned if I can remember where I saw it, but it's out there.
