Sion Sono's 4-hour epic "Love Exposure" to premiere at Tokyo Filmex

by Chris MaGee

There has been very little info out there about Sion Sono's latest film "Love Exposure". Would it be another entry into the director's horrific body of work along with "Strange Circus" and "Exte"? Would it be his answer to films like "Shortbus" and feature explicit sexuality? No one knew for sure, but now we can be sure of one thing. It's long. Very, very long.

Kevin at Nippon Cinema has word that "Love Exposure" will be premiering at the upcoming Tokyo Filmex Festival in November and according to the fest's website the running time for Sono's film is almost 4 hours!

The plot details on the Tokyo Filmex site don't tell us anything much we didn't already know. "Love Exposure" follows the story of Yu, the son of a priest, who through his obsession with peeping into people's windows meets Yoko, a woman caught up in a mysterious religious cult.

Can this plot carry 4 hours? It's anyone's guess at this point, but all I can say is they better give the audience a pee break.

Greetings. I just stumbled onto your site today.... thankfully. I'm always interested in making sense of Japanese cinema. You're a good find!

On another note... I author a blog called Japan In Toronto which focuses on just about anything related to both Japan and Toronto. There is a lot of language learning and exchange activity for both English and Japanese and we try to keep the blog as bilingual as possible. I've added you to our blogroll. I hope you'll do the same for us.

よろしくおねがいします!
