I have to start this story by saying that I'm not a big fan of Kaz Kiriya's 2004 sci-fi action film "Casshern". Was it a sumptuous looking film? Absolutely. But was it ultimately an empty exercise? I think so, although there seems to be a lot of people who disagree with me. Case in point? Todd Brown and the fine folks at Twitch. They have been excited about Kiriya's follow-up feature "Goemon" since it was announced, and that's great. You have to have differences of opinion, and they've done a bang up job following the project. That certainly hasn't changed today when they snagged the first images of Yosuke Eguchi and the rest of the cast of "Goemon" looking stone cold cool as they pose for the camera.
In the film Yosuke Eguchi (Swallowtail Butterfly, Unfair: The Movie) plays the title character, Goemon Ishikawa, a Japanese Robin Hood-type bandit who steals from the rich, gives to the poor and in the process kills a high ranking feudal lord. "Goemon" will be hitting Japanese theatres on May 1st, 2009.
