"Fujoshi Kanojo": The blog that became a manga now becomes a film

by Chris MaGee

Here's a success story for all you bloggers out there. In 2005 a Japanese blogger going by the name of Pentabu started a blog chronicling the relationship between a college student named Muto Ookawa he gets into a relationship with a girl at his office. the only thing is that this girl, Yuiko, turns out to be a "fujoshi", a "rotten girl" or what roughly translates to a female otaku who's into manga and anime. Over the next two years the blog grew in popularity until it was turned into a manga, "Fujoshi Kanojo", illustrated by artist Rize Shinba. Now word comes from Tokyograph that the story of Muto and Yokio will be coming to the big screen in the spring.

Atsushi Kaneshige, who was actually the first assistant director on Toshio Lee's smash hit manga adaptation of his own "Detroit Metal City", will be helming this adaptation. "Crows Zero" star Shunsuke Daito will be taking on the role of Muto while Yuiko will be played by "Kamen Rider Den-O" actress Wakana Matsumoto.
