It's been a long, long wait with very few details leaking out, but now it's official: the full trailer for Sion Sono's upcoming "Love Exposure" has been released and, man, it looks like the man who brought us such head trips as "Suicide Circle" and "Strange Circus" has truly outdone himself. We knew that "Love Exposure" was about Yu (Takahiro Nishijima), the son of a priest, who through his obsession with voyeurism meets the beautiful Yoko (Hikari Mitsushima), a young woman who's caught up in a mysterious religious cult. We also found out last month that it was clocking in at an astounding 237 minutes, but none of that basic information could have prepared us for this: upskirt photographers with ninja skills, nods to "Female Convict Scorpion", "Matrix"-style slow motion bullets, giant crucifixes, girl-on-girl love scenes, explosions, battling high school students.... No wonder this film is 4-hours long. With all this packed in "Love Exposure" is either going to be an instant cult classic or the epic implosion of talented filmmaker... or both.
Head over to the newly re-vamped "Love Exposure" website to see what I mean.

I want to see this. I want to see this NOW. All 4 hours. Deleted scenes. The works.
I like how the film is describe on their site as being based on a true story...
That and this bit:
「ヘンタテインメント(変態+エンタテインメント)超大作」
It's hen-tertainment (perverted entertainment)!
"Hen-tertainment"! Nice!
This trailer really has got me wondering if Sono's really finally lost his mind. Now, whether that's in a good way or a bad way remains to be seen.
