by Chris MaGee

Ever since appearing in Alejandro González Iñárritu's "Babel" actress Rinko Kikuchi has become the darling of international cinema. She's played an explosives expert in Rian Johnson's "The Brothers Bloom", she'll be starring alongside Gong Li, John Cusack and Chow Yun Fat in Mikael Håfström's "Shanghai" and now word that she will be playing a fishmonger by day and a hitwoman by night in Isabel Coixet's "Map of the Sounds of Tokyo".

Ryu (Kikuchi) is hired to avenge the suicide of the daughter of a powerful businessman which has been blamed on a Spanish foreigner who runs a wine store in Tokyo. Ryu goes about the job while being observed by a sound engineer who is compiling a catalogue of the sounds of Tokyo.

Coixet is currently shooting "Map of the Sounds of Tokyo" in Japan with a release scheduled for later in 2009. To find out more about the film check out its official site here. Thanks to Todd Brown at Twitch for bringing our attention to this.
