2009 is underway and that means come April we have yet another Nippon Connection Film Festival in Frankfurt to look forward to. The folks behind the largest film festival dedicated solely to Japanese cinema outside of Japan sent out the first official press release for this year's fest which will be running between April 15th - 19th at three different venues: the Studierendenhaus at the Campus Bockenheim, cinema Orfeos Erben, cinema at the German Film Museum Frankfurt, Kuenstlerhaus Mousonturm in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and it looks like they already have some very impressive films lined-up. Those lucky enough to be attending the five day fest (and I hope to be one of them) will get a chance to see Kiyoshi Kurosawa's "Tokyo Sonata", Shinya Tsukamoto's "Nightmare Detective 2", Studio 4°C's "Genius Party" and "Genius Party Beyond" and Kazuyoshi Kumakiri's "Non-ko". Of course Nippon Connection won't end there. More films will be announced in the coming months and we'll keep out eyes and ears open for what they have in store.
Until then check out Nippon Connection's official site here.
