A few weeks back we announced that the Japan Foundation Toronto was going to be presenting three films from Shochiku's Cinema Kabuki project at the ScotiaBank Theatre, specifically "Nezumi: The Japanese Robin Hood" on March 26th at 7:00 p.m., "Dojoji: A Lover's Duet" on March 28th at 1:00 p.m. followed by "The Sentimental Plasterer" at 3:30 p.m. All of these full kabuki productions have been captured using the latest HD and Surround Sound technology that will bring the experience of kabuki theatre to Canada. At the time of our original report, though, we didn't have the related trailers for the films, so we posted a trailer for "Sagi Musume" to give you all an idea of what to expect from these films.
Now that's all changed with the help of Marty Gross who has been instrumental in bringing these Cinema Kabuki films to the city. Gross has just posted trailers for all three films at his newly created YouTube channel. Get a peek at what you can expect at the end of the month by checking out the traielrs for "Nezumi", "Dojoji", and "The Sentimental Plasterer", the latter directed by "Tora-san" and "The Twlight Samurai" director Yoji Yamada, pictured above (left) with the film's star Kanzaburo Nakamura (right). I've got my tickets. Do you have yours yet?
