Aoi Miyazaki to star in live-action adaptation of Inio Asano's manga "Solanin"

by Chris MaGee

Fresh of managing a punk band in Kankuro Kudo's "Shonen Merikensack" Aoi Miyazaki will now be managing a boyfriend with musical ambitions in Asmik Ace's adaptation of Inio Asano's manga "Solanin". The upcoming live-action adaptation of the romance manga, originally serialized in Young Sunday Magazine between 2005 and 2006, follows the daily struggles of college sweethearts Meiko, a young office worker, and her freeter boyfriend Taneda who is also the lead singer of a rock band. Miyazaki as Meiko will have to take on the task of trying to convince her onscreen beau, played by Kengo Kora (Hebi ni Piasu) that if he wants a career in music that he'll have to work for it, and work hard.

Asmik Ace has tagged music video director Takahiro Miki to helm "Solanin". Even though he's a newbie in terms of feature filmmaking Miki does sound like a good choice given the musical nature of the project. In fact 24-year-old Miyazaki has spent the better part of a year taking guitar and voice lessons in preparation for scenes in the film.

"Solanin" will begin shooting on April 25th with Asmik ace aiming at a 2010 theatrical release. Thanks to Anime News Network and Tokyograph for the details on this.
