Yumeji - Seijun Suzuki (1991)
The third film in "Branded to Kil Director" Seijun Suzuki's loose and surreal Taisho Trilogy "Yumeji" is based on the life of painter Yumeji Takehisa (1884-1934) as portrayed by actor and rock star Kenji Sawada (formerly of The Tigers and known for his gender-bending persona Lucy). The film follows Yumeji through relationships with his lover Hikono and his new obsession Tomoyo. If you think the theme music is familiar you're right. Hong Kong director Wong Kaw-Wai lifted it for his contemporary classic "In the Mood for Love".
