It was in July that word came down that SMAP's Takuya Kimura would be leading the cast of a live-action take on the classic 70's animated series "Space Battleship Yamato". Kimura of course will be playing series hero Susumu Kodai (and if you check out pictures of Kimura you'll see he's got the fancy coiffed hair for it), but now additional casting details have come out via Tokyograph and a very lovely actress is leading up this new round of talent.
21-year-old Meisa Kuroki (above), star of "Crows Zero" and "Who's Camus Anyway?", will be portraying "Yamato" heroine and Kodai love interest Yuki Mori (and did I mention that she's lovely?). Originally Erika Sawajiri was considered for the role, but her agnecy ended up denying that she was ever in the running for "Yamato"... and who cares, she's not as lovely.
Besides Kimura and Kuroki the rest of the cast will be rounded out by Toshiro Yanagiba, Naoto Ogata, Hiroyuki Ikeuchi,, Isao Hashizume, Toshiyuki Nishida, and Tsutomu Yamazaki... all talented, but again, not as lovely as Kuroki. Now leave me be and let me have a moment.
The live-action "Space Battleship Yamato" is set to start filming later in October.
