Rialto Pictures touring new 35mm print of "Ran" throughout the U.S.

by Chris MaGee

It was only last week that we reported on how the new 35mm print of Nobuhiko Obayashi's cult favorite "House" was finally going to to be making its way up to Toronto. That was great news, and in light of this new story I think it's best we count our blessings that we're getting to see at least one newly minted print of a classic film.

2010 marks the 25th anniversary of Akira Kurosawa's late masterpiece "Ran". To commemorate the occasion the folks at Rialto Pictures are currently touring a brand new 35mm print of Kurosawa's adaptaion of Shakespeare's "King Lear" thoughout the United States. If you live in Los Angeles, Brookline, Palo Alto, Traverse City, Portland, Chicago, San Diego, or Washington DC the you best check out Rialto's website to see when and where you'll be able to catch a screening.

And yes, you Canadians (and all you other citizens of Planet Earth) - Rialto's print is, so far, only touring through the States. That's why I say that us Torontonians should count ourselves lucky to be seeing "House" right now. So, unless you're planning a trip down south then we'll have to console ourselves with this gorgeous trailer that Rialto put together for this tour.

Thanks to 24 Frames Per Second for pointing the way to this.
