Torokko (The Rail Truck) - Hirofumi Kawaguchi (2010)


Filmmaker Hirofumi Kawaguchi has worked for years as an assistant director, most notably on Eiji Okuda's 2006 film "A Long Walk". Now Kawaguchi is making his directorial debut with "Torokko (The Rail Truck", an update of of the 1922 short story by "Rashomon" author Ryunosuke Akutagawa. A woman and her two sons must travelk to Taiwan to bury the ashes of her late husband. There they encounter their Taiwanese heritage.




For Love, The Sun and The Gang - Teruo Ishii (1962)

Director Teruo Ishii, best known for making Ken Takakura a star in the "Abashiri Prison" series of films and such ero-guro classics as "Horrors of Malformed Men" got his start at Toei Studios making low budget yakuza films like "For Love, The Sun and The Gang", the second in a series of films that ran from 1961 to 1967.
