Mainichi Kasan - Shotaro Kobayashi (2011)

Based on Rieko Saibara's award-winning autobiographical manga about a manga artist and her daily life raising her family. This one is getting more buzz in Japan for its onscreen reunion of former wife and husband Kyoko Koizumi and ex Masatoshi Nagase. Shochiku is set to release "Mainichi Kasan" in Japanese theatres on February 5th.




The Ghost Cat of Otama Pond - Yoshihiro Ishikawa (1960)

In Japanese folklore it's believed that if after a person is killed a cat comes to lap up their blood the person is doomed to become a kaibyo or "ghost cat". This superstition forms the basis of Yoshihiro Ishikawa's 1960 film "The Ghost Cat of Otama Pond". A young couple out for a trip in the country encounter a ghost cat and are soon reliving the story of a cursed woman from Japan's feudal past.
