It was just a couple weeks back that we shared the first few Japanese titles that will be screened at the 10th anniversary New York Asian Film Festival. "Milocrorze: A Love Story" (the opening night film), "Yakuza Weapon", "Abraxas" and "Heaven's Story". Not bad at all, but recently the NYAFF folks announced their full 2011 line-up and now there are even more new and classic films from Japan for film fans in NYC.
Brand new films in the NYAFF'11 line-up will be Takashi Miike's "Ninja Kids!!!", Yoshihiro Nakamura's "A Boy and his Samurai", Makoto Ohtake's "Dark on Dark", Noboru Iguchi's "Karate Robo-Zaborger", Jun Tsugita's "Horny House of Horror", Hisayasu Sato's "Love and Loathing and Lulu and Ayano", Kozo Morishita's "Osamu Tezuka's Buddha: The Great Departure" and Yu Irie's "Ringing in the Ears". Amazing stuff, but to honour their decade of bringing Asian film to the Big Apple NYAFF programmers have pulled together a couple of modern classics to pack in the audiences. Which films, you may ask? How about Kinji Fukasaku's "Battle Royale" and Ryuhei Kitamura's "Versus"! We expect that there will be more than a few New York film fans lined up around the block for those two.
Also NYAFF will be honoring actor Takayuki Yamada with the Star Asia Rising Star Award fir his contribution to Asian film in the past decade with roles in such films as "Train Man", "Crows Zero", "Vengeance Can Wait" and or course "Milocrorze: A Love Story".
We leave you with the trailer for Miike's "Nija Kids!!!" to get you pumped for the 2011 New York Asian Film Festival taking place at the at Film Society of Lincoln Center and Japan Society between July 1st and 14th. For full ticket and screening details head to the Subway Cinema website here.
