Go Shibata, pink films and a Diversity Check at Asian Hot Shots Berlin

by Chris MaGee

If you are in Berlin this weekend then you are either prepping to head to the 4th annual Asian Hot Shots Festival or you certainly should be. The fest, which brings the best of film and culture from locales across Asia (Korea, India, Thailand, Malaysia and Japan, amongst others) will be taking over Berlin's Moviemento Theatre starting tomorrow, September 9th, until Sunday, September 11th.

What do Japan programmers Maria Römer and Alex Iffländer have on hand for J-film fans over the next three days? Quite a bit actually. This Friday and Saturday will see screenings of Go Shibata's genre-defying Kyoto-based adventure "Doman Seman" (above), and the Euro/ Japanese shorts programme Diversity Check presented by La-Condition-Japonaise. Sunday will see the blood and boobs epic "Erotibot" (NSFW trailer below) starring AV actresses Maria Ozawa and Asami... and a guy who looks like a cybernetic version of the masked Sukekiyo from Kon Ichikawa's "The Inugami Family". On top of these screenings Asian Hot Shots Berlin will feature Japanese cultural events like live music by Futaba Nakayama, a sound performance with visual by Tetsuya Hori, and traditional comedic rakugo storytelling.
