The Japan Society New York presents Films for Hope

by Chris MaGee

Last week we told you about a special programme at Eurospace Shibuya of art animation and experimental films put together by the folks at CALF Animation. On the tail of posting that news we received a tweet from Japan Society New York film programming director Samuel Jamier about a programme of films screening there involving CALF animator Atsushi Wada.

On Sunday, September 11th between 1:00PM and 7:00PM, the Japan Society New York will commemorate the 6-month anniversary of the Great Tohoku Earthquake by playing host to "Films for Hope", a programme of uplifting and wildly creative short animated films from around the globe curated by animator Justin Leach. Included in the programme will be Atsushi Wada's hilarious and surreal short "In a Pig's Eye" (above). Joining Wada's film will be works by such Japanese animators as Hiroyasu Ishida, Takashi Kurihara, Tsuneo Goda and Tomoyoshi Joko. Animator Dai Sato will be on hand at the event to present his new animated short for kids "Five Numbers!"

Sato will be joined at the event by Pixar animation director Enrico Casarosa and both men will discuss their roles in grassroots fundraising for earthquake and tsunami relief in Japan. To see all that is on hand for the 11th head to the Japan Society New York website here.
