Gackt to make Hollywood debut in “Bunraku”

Visual kei pop star and sometimes actor Gackt will be making his Hollywood debut in what sounds like a very strange sci-fi/ action film. Titled “Bunraku” it stars Josh Hartnett as a character called simply “The Drifter” who is seeking revenge for… something. Not quite sure what yet, but according to Hartnett the film takes place in a “world that doesn't look like anything like you've ever seen before. It's in the vein of 'Sin City' or something like that, where the world doesn't look like reality at all.” He also draws comparisons between it and the films of Michel Gondry and Alfred Hitchcock’s “Rope”(!) The film will be directed by Guy Moshe and Gackt will be playing Hartnett’s companion Yoshi, a samurai. Demi Moore, Woody Harrelson and Ron Perlman are rumoured to be on board while the only other Japanese actor cast is Shun Sugata.

So let’s get this straight… Bunraku puppets? Demi Moore? Alfred Hitchcock? And Gackt? Frankly the whole sound of it makes me nervous especially since the last thing Gackt acted in was 2003’s dreadful “Moon Child”, and Josh Hartnett? He’s just plain dreadful.

Bunraku is set for release sometime in 2009.
