Takeshi Kitano gives glory to fellow filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami

by Chris MaGee

Iranian director Abbas Kiarostami (Taste of Cherry, Through the Olive Trees) became the second director to receive the newly created "Glory to the Filmmaker" award at the 65th Annual Venice International Film Festival. The award was created last year to honour directors with a singular and eclectic vision and takes its name from its first recipient, Takeshi Kitano's 2007 film "Kantoku Banzai! (Glory to the Filmmaker!)" Appropriately Kitano was on hand to present Kiarostami with the award.
