Don Brown over at Ryuganji.net has got the scoop on Tadanobu Asano’s sophomore directorial effort. He’ll be directing a segment of the omnibus film “R246 Story” about Route 246, a Japanese national highway that stretches between Tokyo and Shizuoka.
Asano’s contribution will tell the story of a rock and roll space alien (played by Asano himself) who is stranded by the side of R246 without his drum kit. (I hate it when that happens!) Without his drums the alien begins to weaken, but with the help of an old man and a little girl he sets out to get back his musical mojo. Looks like another chance for Asano to mix his career in film with his love of music as in Sogo Ishii’s “Electric Dragon 80,000 V” and Shinji Aoyama’s “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?”… in fact Aoyama has written the script for this segment.
