I had heard about this for awhile, but I'd thought that since Ryuhei Kitamura had finally gotten his wish and got to helm a big budget Hollywood production, the upcoming Clive Barker adaptation "Midnight Meat Train", that this project was going to go bye-bye. Now Todd Brown at Twitch has got the details on the cinematic equivalent of a What If? comic. Smash 'em, crash 'em Ryuhei Kitamura will be filming a script by none other than Shunji Iwai, the man who brought us such smash and crash free films as "Love Letter" and "All About Lily Chou-Chou".
"Bandage" as the project is called will be a portrait of the mid-1990's indie rock scene in Japan, territory that Iwai would know very well seeing as he got his start in that same world directing music videos, but Kitamura? He's got the visual chops (excuse the pun), but I'm curious if he can pull of a project about people swinging guitars instead of swords. Hmmmm...
You can check out details about the cast of this new project over at Todd's Twitch report here: http://twitchfilm.net/site/view/shunji-iwai-ryuhei-kitamura-collaboration-bandage-cast-and-ready-to-go/
