Tatsuya Fuji to star in “Flavour of Happiness”

Jason Gray has news over at his blog about what sounds like a really interesting film that he’s been doing subtitling for. Directed by Mitsuhiro Mihata, “Flavour of Happiness” stars Miki Nakatani (Densha Otoko, Memories of Matsuko) as a woman who after losing her husband in a car accident tries to heal her wounds by training as an apprentice to an elderly Chinese man who runs a restaurant. That elderly man is being played by veteran actor Tatsuya Fuji, and he’s the main reason I wanted to bring you attention to this upcoming film.

After having watched too many Japanese films over the past few years certain actors have singled themselves out for me: Tetsuya Nakadai, Ryo Ishibashi, Susumu Terajima, but one of my favorites by far is Tatsuya Fuji who no matter what film he’s in, from his early Yasuharu hasebe films like “Bloody Territories" through his performance in the notorious “In The Realm of The Senses” to the Japanese/ Canadian co-production “Kamataki” he’s always brought an amazing charisma to the screen; and I often wonder why his name isn’t mentioned with greats like Toshiro Mifune. Now in his late 60’s let’s hope that Fuji-san continues to gift of us some amazing performances.
