Toronto After Dark Film Fest dates and call for entries!

I emailed back and forth with Jason Gray a little while back and he said (and I quote) “I've always said that the best film culture comes out of Toronto,” and I can think of no better evidence to support that statement than the Toronto After Dark Film Festival. 2008 will be its third year bringing the best of horror, sci-fi, and generally bizarre films to The Bloor Cinema here in the city. Adam Lopez and crew have also premiered some fantastic Japanese films in the past two years like Sakichi Sato’s “Tokyo Zombie”, Katsuhito Ishii’s “Funky Forest: First Contact”, Ten Shimoyama’s “Shinobi”, and Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s “Retribution”. I was also honoured when Adam asked The Pow-Wow to be one of the community co-sponsors for the Toronto premiere of Shinya Tsukamoto’s “Nightmare Detective” at last year’s fest.

So, with that being said it’s great to see that after an astonishing 51% increase in attendance last year the fest is expanding from seven nights to eight nights this year! After Dark will be running from Friday, October 17th to Friday, October 24th at The Bloor.

Also, they have just announced the call for entries for 2008’s fest. They welcome all forms of international and independent thrilling cinema including horror, sci-fi, fantasy, animation, crime, action, documentary, music videos and cult/bizarre films, both in short form and feature-length.
