News from Variety Asian Online that “Aibô: gekijô-ban” is packing theatres in Japan has raked in an astounding ¥1.2 billion (or $11.4 million) during its Golden Week run that began on May 1st.
Starting out in 2002 as a hugely popular TV drama on TV Asahi the big screen adaptation of “Aibô” follows Metropolitan Police Dept. partners Ukyo Sugishita and Kaoru Kameyama (played by Yutaka Mizutani and Yasufumi Terawaki respectively) as they take on another case that the day-to-day cops just can’t crack. The film also stars Yoshino Kimura who will next be seen in Fernando Meirelles’s “Blindness” and the ubiquitous Ittoku Kishibe.
